An Italian Story With Its Eyes on the Future

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Arcore (MB), Italy, May 2026 – Ninety years of industrial history, materials research and international vision. Founded in 1936 in Brianza by Cavaliere Emilio Blanc, Sireg marks a significant milestone – one that speaks not only to the resilience of an Italian family business, but above all to its remarkable capacity for reinvention, consistently anticipating technological shifts and the demands of tomorrow’s infrastructure.

Starting out in rubber reclamation, Sireg has weathered nearly a century of industrial transformation, evolving alongside its materials: from post-war thermoplastics – including patented solutions such as the Athermophon insulator, used aboard major ocean liners and aircraft fleets – to battery separators, PVC pipes and profiles, and composite material products, cementing its reputation as a European benchmark in geotechnics and civil engineering.

From the 1990s onwards, with remarkable foresight, the company made a decisive shift towards composite materials – glass fibre, carbon fibre and aramid fibre – which today form the heart of its research and development. This strategic move has solidified the role of Sireg Geotech in the geotechnical and civil engineering sectors, with solutions deployed across more than 70 countries for metro systems, tunnels, dams, major underground works, historic building restoration and new construction.

A European first in the certification of fibreglass reinforcement bars for concrete

In 2024, Sireg achieved a landmark result: it became the first company in Europe to obtain CE marking for straight and shaped fiberglass (GFRP – Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer) GLASSPREE® rebars intended for structural concrete reinforcement.

This achievement makes a concrete contribution to the standardisation of the technology, facilitating its adoption by the market and providing designers, contractors and public authorities with a clear and reliable regulatory reference, supporting a more transparent and competitive market. Fiberglass bars represent a compelling alternative to steel, offering greater durability, high resistance to corrosive environments, and tangible benefits in terms of sustainability, safety and reduced maintenance costs, particularly in complex or aggressive settings.

As early as 2022, Sireg had obtained the European Technical Assessment (ETA) for GLASSPREE® bars, and in 2023 contributed to the reconstruction of the first bridge in Europe built with prestressed reinforced concrete using GFRP bars, in Gonnesa (Cagliari), in collaboration with Manini Prefabbricati. A landmark application that marks the transition from experimentation to full technological maturity of composites in the infrastructure sector.

In parallel, the company is developing a new generation of FRP bars with a thermoplastic matrix, designed to be shaped directly on site, overcoming the technological limitations of traditional thermosetting resins. This innovation makes the material increasingly comparable to conventional steel rebar in terms of ease of use, while preserving its advantages in durability and resistance to aggressive environments. The use of thermoplastic matrices also brings a significant sustainability benefit: the bars are recyclable at end of life, contributing to a more circular approach to materials in civil engineering.

An industrial group with a global reach, across water and land

Alongside the Geotech division, active in civil and geotechnical engineering, the Sireg Group operates through Sireg Hydros in the design and construction of membrane-based systems for the treatment, purification and desalination of primary, process and wastewater, including reverse osmosis technology, developing solutions for civil, industrial, hospitality, marine, agricultural and international cooperation applications.

Through Sireg Polyvinyl, the Group is also the only European manufacturer of PVC separator sheets for traction and stationary batteries.

With 60% of turnover generated abroad, 25,000 sq m of production facilities across Arcore, Agrate and Ronco Briantino, a photovoltaic array of over 1,000 panels generating 500 kW, and 5% of turnover invested in R&D, Sireg stands as a compelling example of Italian high-tech manufacturing with a strong commitment to sustainability.

The company maintains active partnerships with leading universities and research institutions, including the Politecnico di Milano, ITC-CNR, the University of Cagliari, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the University of Miami, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, ETH Zürich, Técnico Lisboa, UCLouvain, Brno University of Technology, and academic partners across the United States and Europe, contributing to the dissemination of technical knowledge on composite materials through seminars and dedicated training programmes for designers, engineers and decision-makers.

People at the heart: the fourth generation joins the company

Since 2009, the company has been led by Sonja Blanc, the third generation of the founding family, who has guided Sireg through a period of managerial and strategic renewal, strengthening its international standing and innovative identity.

Marking this ninetieth anniversary is the entry of the fourth generation: Matteo and Allegra Blanc, the CEO’s children, who have joined the company following studies and professional experience abroad — in the commercial and marketing areas respectively. This transition represents the continuity of an entrepreneurial culture built on technical expertise, international openness and a passion for innovation.

90 years of history, a gaze towards the future

At a time when European infrastructure demands both renovation and new construction that must meet increasingly stringent criteria for sustainability, resilience and safety, Sireg positions itself as a technology partner for the infrastructure of tomorrow.

From rubber to composites, from plastic pipes to CE-marked fiberglass bars, the story of Sireg demonstrates how evolving in materials means evolving in the way we build the world.

Ninety years after its founding, Sireg remains a company in constant evolution, capable of reinventing itself while holding fast to its founding values: combining materials research, industrial vision and applied expertise to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

info@sireg.it | ufficiotecnico@sireg.it | press@sireg.it[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Arcore (MB), Italy, May 2026 – Ninety years of industrial history, materials research and international vision.
