Sireg Geotech Supports Manini Prefabbricati in the Hybrid Reconstruction of Europe’s First Prestressed Reinforced Concrete Bridge Using Fiberglass Bars

Sireg Geotech is proud to partner with Manini Prefabbricati in the hybrid reconstruction of Europe’s first prestressed reinforced concrete bridge using fiberglass bars.

Sireg designed and produced Glasspree® reinforcements – the only GFRP composite bars with ETA European certification currently available on the market – for Manini’s precast elements used in the reconstruction of the bridge that collapsed in 2020 in Gonnesa (Cagliari, Italy).

The bridge consists of seven precast beams with prestressed steel strands and a flexural and shear reinforcement entirely made of fiberglass. The deck measures 23.30 meters in length and 9.10 meters in width.

Compared to steel, fiberglass offers an estimated service life of 100 years, lighter weight, greater corrosion resistance in saline environments, lower life-cycle costs, and a reduced environmental impact.

Engineers, students, and specialized journalists interested in exploring the potential of fiberglass for civil engineering are welcome to contact Sireg.
